FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"I stay inspired to create music because I'm a part of it. It's within my soul." The latest RA episode discusses Saunderson’s studio process, Detroit’s evolving sound, and his creative work with Maschine+ as he is set to release the first new e-Dancer album in 25 years.
Berlin, February 10, 2025 – Native Instruments is proud to collaborate with Resident Advisor’s The Art of Production series to celebrate Kevin Saunderson, one of the founding architects of Detroit techno. In the latest episode of the acclaimed series, Saunderson takes audiences inside his creative process, sharing insights on keeping Detroit’s signature sound fresh and how Maschine+ plays a pivotal role in his music-making today.
With a career that has shaped both underground scenes and mainstream charts, Saunderson is a living legend. The Art of Production reveals his studio philosophy and creative workflow, from integrating hardware and software tools to shaping unique drum and bass elements with Maschine+.
Kevin says of his Maschine+ experience: “It’s just like the Maschine I know, except it’s standalone, which I love. I can work anywhere—on the train, on the plane, in my studio. It’s got thousands of sounds, step-sequencing, manual play, automatic quantisation, and the ability to tweak samples.”

Since its launch, Maschine has supercharged producers with a seamless blend of hardware and software, professional-grade sounds and has redefined beat-making across genres. Maschine+ elevated this legacy by offering a fully standalone workflow, giving artists like Kevin Saunderson the freedom to create anywhere.
The latest Maschine 3 software introduces powerful updates like stem separation, expanded MIDI editing, and the new Maschine Central library, packed with genre-spanning sounds and presets. Maschine remains a staple for music creators, inspiring innovation both in the studio and on stage.

Celebrating e-Dancer’s return
Coinciding with the The Art of Production release, Saunderson and his son Dantiez are set to release e-Dancer — the first album of new material under the iconic alias in over 25 years. Scheduled for release on May 21 via One House, the 10-track collection continues Detroit’s techno legacy with deep grooves, pulsing rhythms, and raw, stripped-back percussion.

The album builds on Saunderson’s groundbreaking 1998 release Heavenly, a techno classic that united people on the dancefloor during turbulent times. This new self-titled project merges Kevin’s 1990s groove-driven foundation with Dantiez’s forward-thinking approach, evolving the e-Dancer sound for a new generation of techno fans. Tracks like Emotions and Melodica showcase the duo’s synergy — melding soulful synth lines with hypnotic, floor-shaking beats.
“Music has always been about making people dance,” Kevin explains. “It’s in Dantiez’s DNA, and this album is a testament to that shared mission. When people hear it, I want them to feel the connection between father and son pushing Detroit’s sound forward.”
